Background

Traditional drug package inserts have tiny fonts (“ant-sized text”) and complex medical terminology, creating barriers for patients—especially elderly populations—to understand medication usage and precautions.

Our Solution

  • Developed 150+ visualized medication instruction videos covering 5 therapeutic categories (pediatric medications, menopausal medications, gynecological topical preparations, antitumor drugs, and traditional Chinese patent medicines)
  • Created the “One Drug One QR Code” system integrating video links with hospital drug formulary and prescription slips
  • Established comprehensive pharmaceutical service support throughout the entire medication process

Innovation

This low-cost, easily replicable model demonstrates that pharmacist-led science communication can effectively address the core challenge of helping patients “understand” medication instructions—going beyond the national reform focus on enlarged fonts and electronic versions.

Currently serving as a Clinical Trial Quality Assurance Officer at Affiliated Women’s Hospital of Jiangnan University (Jiangnan University Affiliated Maternity and Child Healthcare Hospital), and Committee Member & Executive Secretary of the Pharmaceutical Policy Professional Committee, Wuxi Pharmacists Association.

My research focuses on pharmacist competency development, drug information visualization, and patient-centered pharmaceutical care. I led the “Drug Package Insert Reform & Visualization Project” (2020–2025), which developed over 150 visualized medication instruction videos benefiting 850,000+ patients. This work contributed to the establishment of the first batch of Jiangsu Pharmaceutical Association “Pharmacy Science Popularization Base” in April 2024.
